SAT 11th FACELIFT "Not a bad night crowd wise, a lot of regulars missing, but a few new faces which is always good to see. Band cracked off with t'rex, 20th Century Boy, followed by a bit of Bad Company. Fratellis had them all boppin in their seats. Paranoid next followed by a rocked up version of Spin Me Right round, and gilly missed it they played PRIEST, Free n Therapy were followed by Billie Jean, Green Day & Motorhead finished a crackin 1st set. 2nd half kicked off with Sat Nights Alright For Fighting belting out, Whiskey In The Jar, followed then Cult, Purple, more Lizzy, did an excellent drum solo on a bass guitar, new one on me, by now the dance floor was chocka. For enchores we were treated to Led Zep, Sex Pistols, Metallica. Great band, great mix of music, classics to get them singing & dancing and a few unusual tracks they did in their own impressive style. They will be returning" GIG-PIT review of a previous gig at THE TURBINIA
SAT 18th INSANITY "Two great sets with something a little different - early Sabs, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Foo Fighters and a brilliant version of Queens Of The Stone Age 'No One Knows' were amongst the stuff Insanity serve up. Not all my cup of char, but thoroughly enjoyable. Band were nice and tight with Graeme his usual rocking self at the back ably assisted in the rhythm section by Hirdy playing great bass and jumping around like only he does. Brian on vocals has a perfect voice for the material and headbangs and poses like a proper frontman. I was most impressed with John "I only play rhythm really".....yeah, right!!! Trigg on guitar. Great clean but dirty tone playing in a variety of tunings and some real tasty phrasing and playing. Definately a less is more style, but some lush soloing that was even more impressive considering the lack of saturation, each note ringing out nicely. Excellent stuff!!! SAT 10th 1977 ROCKERMOUTH REVIEW FROM "STORMIN THE CASTLE" - "For me probably the band I was looking forward to seeing the most at Stormin’. Simply because I knew that the punk covers that they play would be such a great alternative musical taste, and that the typical assembled Stormin’ audience would absolutely lap this lot up. Sure enough 1977 did the job splendidly! Lots of classic late 70‘s punk anthems from the Sex Pistols, Clash, Jam, SLF, D*mned, plus many more. Again it was just a brief one-hour slot in which to deliver a show, but with some of their songs clocking in at 3 minutes or less then they managed to bang in a multitude of tunes with plenty of variety. This crowd just grew and grew as the group continued to belt out anthem after anthem, and obviously the audience were becoming a lot more animated & lairy too, ha-ha. I was just as happy watching the crowd having a great time as I was watching the band play. There was a fantastic atmosphere building up in the main tent, and 1977 were milking it to the max. The sound mix for them was even better than the previous band, and now I could say that the quality of the rig was easily as good as any prior years of this rally. Bill’s bass guitar sound was huge, Cass’ drum kit had never sounded bigger nor better, and Jakka’s guitar tone cut through the mix like a broadsword. This was big step forward from their typical pub gigs using their own small vocal P.A. system. Stadium rock had finally arrived for 1977 after 15 years of slogging their backsides off around the north east, and boy didn’t they suit it so well! This 3-piece band came alive on this bigger stage, and the crowd absolutely loved them."

SAT 24th THE KILL "The band took to the stage, from the off it was a great hard rock attack that set the vibe that would continue throughout the performance. Vocalist Gregg took centre point on stage and really went for it. Not just vocally but physically too! I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Office stage is bigger than most pub set-ups and it needs a band with a genuine physical presence to attract the audience's attention in a building of that size. They had that charisma about them. The rock style of the band continued on with a commercial AOR feel on such songs as Def Leppard's 'Animal', and even though the group did generally go down the path of recognisable rock anthems, it never became too cheesy or entirely predictable. I think they hit a marvellous balance of choosing songs that would have a larger appeal, and yet still maintained an element where you weren't too sure what was coming next" - Colin Smoult REVIEW. SAT 31st SABBATICA -an evening of classic BLACK SABBETH music from the ossie era- davy’s rock page review - "The singer had great presence even managing a stand up comedy routine in the middle of a broken string break. The other three members of the band were excellent, its unfair to give the lead guitarist all the lime light ,but lets face it the lead guitar is like the centre forward, he gets all the attention, and boy did this guy milk it and deliver some fret work that left us totally speechless, its not often we are totally blown away but this guy did it, some of his solos made the hairs on the back of ya neck stand up, The bass was fantastic and the drummer gave an equally great performance, this may sound like we are going over the top but its not hype, we are paying £12 to see a U2 tribute band at the customs house, and to be honest after Hearing SABBATICA we would gladly pay the same amount to see them www.sabbatica.co.uk

SAT 14th AMERICAN GIRL some recent reviews - "Punters thin on the ground as usual at the Grand on Saturday but despite the lack of atmosphere, American Girl played out as if the place was full. The mark of a Band who love performing! The singer - what a bonny lass!! Great looks, moves and stage presence, and a lovely voice. The second thing you notice - (once you've managed to do something with the lump in your pants) is the quality of the bands' sound and playing ability. Seamless switching between tones and styles in a set bursting with the best of feelgood rock and pop classics". "I can see this band making a reputation for themselves very quickly once word starts to get around". "Had the pleasure of seeing American Girl at The market tavern in Chester le street last night. They played an excellent solid set of classic rock and pop hits ( Pat Benetar, Chillies, Adams etc.). There where no fillers in this set. All great musicians and Lara's vocals prove that you don't have to sound like Bon to sing"Dirty Deeds" "All the songs were perfomed well and, IMHO, the musicians are of a good standard. The vocalist is, in fact, an American girl and it's the first time in a while I've seen a band with a female singer. She is, for me, a natural lead singer and she really put body and soul into her performance. She gave 100% and clearly enjoyed what she did. Some might say she sang some songs better than others but I thought "Hit me with your best shot" was excellent and "Jumpin' Jack Flash" wasn't far behind."

What can you say about FM , this was rock and metal utopia, a classic journey through the rock and roll hall of fame. They did the lot, Kaiser Chiefs, Foo Fighters,Sabbath, AC/DC, Zep and no real cheese, Ok they did Whisky in the Jar, but hey!! FM put a great amount of effort into this gig , sometimes mid week gigs just don,t seem to have the same WOW /OOMPH The atmosphere was great as was the music, a superb night. What is particularly pleasing is that FM don,t always take the easy option, i.e instead of sticking to Sweet Child Of Mine ,they did Welcome to The Jungle,so its nice to hear a year and on this performance many a year to come different GnR cover and one that takes a little more effort vocally. SAT 26th ATLANTIS KNIGHT
Review: "Atlantis Knight, were created about 4 years ago and are made up from a wealth of experience in members who have historically played in numerous other bands including North East top Rock Band, ‘Maiden England’. The band have recently just resumed touring the North East circuit for a second time after a 6 month break, due to professional commitments to other artistic projects. The first thing which intrigued me on entering the upstairs concert room in Nikh’s was the fantastic vocals of lead singer ‘David Wilson’. His versatility and breath of covers was encouraging and pleasingly received by the audience. AK’s repertoire of covers encompassed at least one single perceptible likeness for the masses to gorge on, some of whom I’m sure, ‘made bliddy right ‘pigs’ of themselves’. It was obvious that AK enjoyed playing together even though they re-sounded some minor collective timing issues. However this was unnoticeable and understandable knowing the bands absence from the stage the last 6 months. ‘Garry’ and ‘Johnny’ complimented each other on guitar, especially on ‘The Trooper’ and created pleasing tight instrumental fill passages. ‘Bens’ lower pitched rhythm and ‘James’ amplitude overtones provided a deep foundation for the others to weight bare. On the whole another thoroughly enjoyable live performance to feed the appetite" - toon rock page review

Was this our best mid week pub gig ever ?? Probably !
How long have FM been around now ?? Many a year and on this performance many a year to come. Thanks lads you were awesome www.effemm.co.uk

WED 26th THE ELVIS EXPERIENCE our "show of the month" nights One of the countries top ELVIS tributes "MIKE MEMPHIS & THE MEMPHIS BELLES SHOWGIRLS" "2010 has been a fantastic year for "MIKE MEMPHIS & THE ELVIS EXPERIENCE". Regular bookings, referrals & re-bookings for 2011, along with a starring appearance at the journal tyne theatre in newcastle. The icing on the cake however, was that MIKE was asked to perform on the anniversary of ELVIS' birthday for the official elvis presley fan clubs "birthday bash" - the first time an Elvis Tribute Artist has ever been allowed to perform for this official fan club. Testament not only to his ability as a performer, but also to mike's own genuine admiration for the King of rock & roll. Mike has already been booked by the fan club for a vaiety of shows over the next 18 month. This year has seen the rise & increase in popularity of his "road to vegas" cabaret show. This show features the gorgeous "MEMPHIS BELLES VEGAS SHOWGIRLS " who join Mike taking you through the ELVIS years, performing fantastic dance routines & treating the audiences to some stunning costume changes. A very "VEGAS" show A review from top north east music venue - "It atmosphere is any judge of a performance, then MIKE MEMPHIS as ELVIS must rank aong the top acts ever to play at THE THREE TUNS, because there have been few nights i have enjoyed as much as this - MIKE MEMPHIS IS ELVIS - AND ELVIS HAS MOST DEFINITELY ROCKED THE BUILDING" www.ukelvis.co.uk
SAT 29th JANUARY SAT 5th RUSS TIPPINS "His first set was done with an acoustic guitar, and it has to be said it was just like an intimate unplugged session you see on MTV , the atmosphere was amazing (As was his guitar playing ) all the songs he covered were ideally suited for an acoustic set, Russ just oozed confidence, The second set was back to the electric guitar and back to rock, all the classic rock bands were covered , Floyd, Zep, ACDC, Purple ,Stones, Santana, In summary this was the best one man show we had seen in a pub." - DAVYSROCKPAGE review
CAPTAIN ROCK GIG PIT REVIEW FROM THE TUB - Decided to take it easy and drive to the Turbinia in Newton Aycliffe last night to watch Steve, Lewthy, Al and Marky aka Captain Rock. Anyway, I missed most of the first half....what I did see I'll come back to 'cos it's the best bit. The second half was a typical CR performance. Steve's a good sound engineer and he had the mix pretty much spot on with it not being too loud and everything cutting through well. The pub was pretty full and the crowd up for some Christmas shennanigans...shennanigans are a Captain Rock thing as well. Lots of wandering into the crowd, guest appearances galore, standing on chairs, playing the other guitarists guitar with your own baldy heed. They even did a couple of Christmas songs at the end getting the crowd to participate. And at last, with the crowd all demanding it and every camera in the house poised, Wrighty revealed what is under that kilt....see pics later. It was proper daft stuff but...and this is where we get back to the first set. Despite all the carry on and showmanship that gets the crowd going, Captain Rock are four very good musicians, playing some very good music. Al and Mikey are solid as a rock at the back, Steve's got a great voice and Lewthy's playing is getting better all the time. To prove the point, I'd have to describe 'astronomy' by Blue Oyser Cult which is always the last song of the first set. It has everything in it. It's a long song but it keeps your interest from start to finish with it's highs and lows. Brilliantly executed by the band and undoubtably the best song of the night.
BESSIE & THE ZINC BUCKETS ROCKERMOUTH REVIEW "STORMIN 2011" - "Saw the Buckets show in the Iris tent and they RULED IT! If ever a band were more suited to a venue, I could not think of another as much as the Buckets playing in the Iris tent at Stormin. Their 3rd time now, yet this time they are becoming legendary amongst the bikers, hence the reason why the tent was rammed full from the very first number. A brilliant marathon performance from these guys (an hour and 3 quarters without a break), awesome reaction from the crowd, What a show! " "the best gig i'v been to, nothin' comes close, mayhem of the highest order"
THE TOP BAND at 2 of the biggest bike rally's in the country - "FARMYARD PARTY" & "STORMIN" THIS WILL BE THE PARTY OF THE YEAR " BUCKETMANIA"
NE / DC Gig Pit Review - Crook FC was absolutely jam-packed and it appeared apparent that they had made such a good impression on the punters the last time they played, that quite a lot had turned out for them again, despite the dodgy weather. Well, what can I say about the music? Well NEDC are (probably obviously) an ACDC tribute band who cover the Bon Scott era tracks, and are made of the remnants of Whey Aye CDC plus a couple of newbies to the fold. They played a straight set for nearly two hours and as usual Graeme got right into his 'Angus' role and just never seemed to let up, an absolutely blistering guitar performance with all the moves of Angus off to a tee. The crowd were really getting into it by the third track! Lead singer Patrick, vocally I dont think I have ever heard better. I usually refer to him as 'more Bon than Bon' but dont just take my word for it, go and see for yourself, I think you will be amazed. Despite not looking like Bon however, Patrick is a great frontman, gets the crowd going and keeps up with the Duracell bunny antics of Graeme superbly well. The drummer Neil knows ACDC upside down and could probably play any track by them while eating a sandwich and reading a newspaper, and he puts his own trademark of course on everything he does. This is the second time I have seen NEDC and I think they were excellent first time round at The Blyth and Tyne, but they really stepped it up a gear and took the roof off Crook FC on Saturday. One to watch these guys, they dont gig loads, but I personally would highly recommend them. another - "outstanding again. It was just like watching the AC/DC ''Rock goes to college 1977'' DVD....loved it." 1 more - "Absolutely mint, close your eyes and Bon is back from the dead - spooky!"
